Thursday

Despite the rain today we have been very active. The children started the day with some team building activities - spiders web, blind-folded walking and helping a friend off a desert island!!!

This afternoon we have visited the Itatiaia museum and climbed up to see the "wedding veil" waterfall to take lots of photos.

This evening we will be enjoying a nice Churrasco and then the students can have some free time either dancing, playing games or simply sitting by the fire and enjoying Mr Andre playing the guitar.

Tomorrow we will be leaving bright and early and stopping in Penado so that everyone can buy some souvenirs.

We are all very very tired but i could not be more proud of all that has been achieved by the students this week.

The river and land mapping

The students were split into two groups today.... Flora and Fauna. The morning river mapping activity was completed by Fauna and it was fantastic. The students had to take measurements and collect data and they all seemed to thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the water. This was the group who did not have time to abseil yesterday and so following the mapping, most of them attempted to abseil from the bridge down into the water. All had a great time.

During this time, the Flora group were busy mapping the land around the hotel. They were using ranging poles and clinometers in order to create a topographic map.

This after the groups have swapped around (although Flora will not be doing more abseiling).

All morning we have had lovely sunshine but unfortunately, this afternoon the rain came and we have all got rather wet!!!
The students are back in their rooms at the moment and changing into dry warm clothes ready to sit down and work on their booklets for an hour or two.

This evening - movie in the warm with popcorn and hot chocolate.

As for photos - i will do my best - but please understand that the internet here is very very slow and so may not be able to add many.

Please keep sending messages... i will pass them on and ask the children to write a few messages this evening.

The big hike....

Yesterday was a beautiful day weatherwise and the sun was shining with blue skies as we started our hike up the mountain of Couto... Dosed with sunscreen, we had a later start than planned due to traffic jams (unbelievably we have them here in the mountains too!!!) but made it to the summit at 12.30. Half the group were able to do the abseiling but for some there was no time... Do not worry though - they will be doing the abseiling (rapel) today near the river.
Finally, and feeling very proud of our achievements, we made it back in time for dinner, showers and a much appreciated bed!!

Today the students will be mapping a river and some dry land. Once again we are blessed with lovely sunshine (so sunscreen will be out in full force) and this evening we will be having movie and games night.

More updates to come....

Arrived safe and sound...

We have all arrived safe and sound at the hotel.
We have had a wonderful day of sunshine and have had a lovely trip around the Funil hydroelectric power station where they have started to complete the Physics section of their booklets.

The students have already been kitted out for their climb up Couto tomorrow and are now enjoying some free time before dinner.

After dinner they are going to get to know the hotel a little better by doing a kind of treasure hunt in teams. Following this - hot chocolate and all in their rooms by 21:30 - lights out at 22:00 ready for a very early start tomorrow in order to climb Couto (this is an alteration from the itinerary on the website as the weather will be better on Tuesday than any other day this week).

More updates to come tomorrow...
